A significant part of Jewish Learning Initiative's mission at Brandeis is the cultivation of a vibrant religious Zionist environment amongst the 2000 Jewish students on campus, with an annual Israeli Memorial Day commemoration, Independence Day celebration, and a Yom Yerushalayim parade. JLI played an integral role in Brandeis students' strong showing at the Israel Solidarity Rally in Washington and in the International Hillel Advocacy Mission in Israel.
JLI has introduced educational programs at the Beit Midrash Orientation for first-year students and at Yom Limmud, a community-wide day of Jewish learning before the High Holidays. Mitzvah Day brings together students from all backgrounds for a day of Jewish learning and doing, and an Educators' Co-op serves the needs of students involved in teaching at Hebrew schools and Sunday programs.
In a typical week, JLI faculty at Brandeis learns with upwards of 60 students in classes, chevrutot, or in small groups. In addition to these on-going classes and chevrutot, JLI offers one-time classes on Shabbat and the various Jewish holidays.
