The Jewish Learning Initiative (JLI) couple Cornell University fills the complete spectrum of services for the more than 3,000 Jewish students on campus. As mashgichim for the kosher dining facility (104 West!), Rabbi Yitzchak Jaffe and Maayan ensure than OU-certified cuisine is prepared for 21 meals throughout the week at two different locations as well as that commissary is distributed to 13 different locations across campus. The goal: to make eating kosher easy.
Rabbi Jaffe also serves as rabbi for the Center for Jewish Living Shul, an active synagogue with three daily minyans. He gives the Halacha Yomit twice daily and ensures that Shabbat and holidays run smoothly.
But the main aspiration of Rabbi Jaffe and Maayan is to bring Jewish learning and love of Israel to as many Jewish students as possible. Through outreach efforts, chevrutot, classes, innovative and attractive programming, and simply doing Shabbat, the couple aims to touch the lives of the students in a deep and meaningful way.
The couple also serves as educational partners with the staff of Cornell Hillel and regularly helps provide materials and /or input at Hillel events.
