Seventy years of Communism destroyed Jewish communal life in Russia and eradicated all traces of Jewish identity. The majority of Russian Jews no longer belong to the Jewish Community.
The "Torah MiTzion" Beit Midrash, started in 1997 with the generous assistance of the L.A. Pincus Jewish Education Fund for the Diaspora , is now a focus point for intensive activity, which renews the awareness of Judaism, with an Israeli atmosphere.
For the fifth year now, Rabbi David and Ayelet Ushuvayev , heads up the kollel, assisted by Arieh and Alexandra Zilbershtein, Gilad Shmialov and 2 local Avrechim - Leib Slotzkin and Raphael Sofer.
The kollel organizes chevruta learning with local students and ba'alei batim from morning till night. There are Shiurim in Tanach, Gemara, Halacha, Hebrew, and Jewish Identity.
Other activities include a women's social club, Ongei Shabbat, Shabbatonim, and special activities for the Chagim. Dozens of Jews participate in these activities, and during chagim the numbers reach hundreds.
The Kollel is currently learning M'sechet Kidushin and Babba Kama.
The Torah MiTzion Kollel in Moscow continues to be supported by the L.A. Pincus Jewish Education Fund for the Diaspora .
