Of the Jewish Society at Oxford’s 500 Jewish members about 70-80 people come to services and dinner on an average Friday night. A smaller Orthodox minyan meets daily at the Jewish Centre. The Oxford community provides the Society with subsidized Kosher meals.

The SherizensThanks to JLI the Jewish students of Oxford University benefit from their first exclusive full time professional staff. The JLI shlichim work closely with the Jewish Society to enhance existing services and develop new programs for the Jewish student body of approximately 1000. Their efforts aim to develop the foundation of Jewish services available at Oxford. The shlichim seek to provide the students already involved in Jewish life on campus with an enriching and supportive environment while concurrently developing new programs to connect with the majority of students not participating in any Jewish activities as of yet.

Students can look forward to beginning the year with chagim and shabbatot enhanced with a greater sense of community, ruach, and thought provoking discussions. Programs already scheduled by the JSOC include a weekly 1-2-1 learning program geared at encouraging chavruta-style learning, an extensive Tikkun Olam Social Action Program, “10 Years Since Oslo-An Easy Guide to the Conflict” aimed at informing students and producing a significant hasbarah element for upcoming debates in the Oxford Union, and a range of engaging speakers.

JLI will also provide more exciting and refreshing programs such as explanatory Shabbat services, personal chavruta learning, Hebrew literacy classes, warm home hospitality, and much more.
