Since the Fall of 2002 a Jewish Learning Initiative couple has served as the campus educators at the University of Pennsylvania. As JLI shlichim, Orit and Rabbi Yehuda Seif enhance the Torah and Zionist activity within the large Jewish community at Penn (6000 undergraduate and graduate students!), which includes both undergraduate and graduate students. The shlichim's roles are not limited to being teachers--they strive to fill the need for role models and mentors as well.

Rabbi Seif offers shiur on a nightly basis on a wide range of topics including: Advanced Talmud and Halakha. He is constantly present in the Beit Midrash where he engages in in his one-on-one chevrutot, prepares for shiurim, and is available to answer questions. Amongst the many halakhic issues that arise, students often approach the Rabbi Seif with questions relating to Kashrut and maintenance of the University eruv.

Through their separate activities, as well as through joint programs such as Sunday Night Learning, Scholars-In-Residence, Shabbat meals, or special Friday night onegs, they are a team whose main goal is to strengthen the Jewish community at Penn through Torah and connection to Israel.

Students Speak: “The activities of the Seifs provide a very necessary break from the regular academic world, challenging us to grow during college not only academically but also within the realm of Torah and Ahavat Hashem (love of God).”
