The Jewish community at Princeton includes an estimated 12% of the total 4,600 undergraduate students on campus. The Orthodox student group, Yavneh, along with Hillel is housed at the Center for Jewish Life (CJL). The CJL has both a good Judaica library, a well-stocked beit midrash, and a kosher kitchen. Until the introduction of JLI, the Princeton Orthodox community did not have a rabbi and the only Orthodox community in the area was Chabad.

Learning at PrincetonBecause the Princeton Jewish community is so small and close-knit, JLI has opportunities unavailable in other campus situations. Rabbi Uri and Dr. Yocheved Cohen strive to build closer one-on-one relationships with students, making a more personal impact in the students' lives. Beginning its first year at Princeton, JLI is introducing regular shiurim, setting up chevrutot, and providing Shabbat and Chagim hospitality. The Cohens are available to counsel and to provide a listening ear for students.
